Movie Review: The Rite(Film Number 5 In My Goal For 2011 Films)

The genre of exorcism horror has never really appealed to me and The Rite didn't do anything to change that. I use the term "horror" lightly in this case because The Rite is more of a drama about exorcism then a horror film. The problem with The Rite isn't that it's not a horror film, it's that it's just not an interesting film. I was completely bored throughout the entire film. This film does very little to hold your attention. It drags through it's near two hour runtime with a dull plotline and emotionless acting (for the most part). Lead actor Colin O'Donoghue does a pretty weak job in his first film. If this performance is any indicator, I would say his days as an actor are numbered. Anthony Hopkins is the only reason that film doesn't completely fall on it's face. Hopkins is magnetic whenever he is on the screen and this is his best performance in quite some time. Even with Anthony Hopkins on his game, The Rite is still a complete snore of a film.

1.5/5 Stars
