Album Review: GWAR-Bloody Pit Of Horror

The monsters from another universe GWAR are back. Bloody Pit Of Horror, their 12th release came up pretty quick, I wasn't excepting more material from them this soon. Thankfully, they didn't rush it and the material is pretty strong.

Bloody Pit Of Horror is defintiely thrashier than their last record "Lust In Space",which is great.
GWAR's faster tunes have always been my favorites of theirs."A Gathering Of Ghouls" and "Hail Genocide!" are the 2 fastest and best track here. Flattus Maximus rolls through the album's best riffs on these two tracks and it adds a lot of the song. Bloody Pit Of Horror also has the classic GWAR wit. "The Litany Of The Slain" is especially amusing, it basically lists all of the people they have killed during their live performances over the years. It is impossible to listen to this track without a grin on your face. On the other hand, Bloody Pit Of Horror has a really weak opening 1-2 punch. "Zombies March!" and "Come The Carnivore" are the two worst tracks here and they should not have picked as album openers. Personally, I think album openers should be a firecracker and set the tone for the album. These two tracks open the record in a misleading and subfar fashion.

Bloody Pit Of Horror is a typical, fun GWAR record. It's their fastest record in years and it's an improvement over their fast few releases. I think GWAR bass player Beefcake The Mighty describes Bloody Pit Of Horror the best in "Beat You To Death, in which before the guitar solo, he exclaims "It's Clobberin' Time". Listening to this record just drives home the point that I need to see GWAR live ASAP. GWAR is just as tongue-in-cheek as ever and I hope that never changes.
