Movie Review: Dinner For Schmucks

Rarely does such a great comedic cast get assembled. Dinner For Schmucks brings together comic all-stars Paul Rudd and Steve Carell. On top of these brillant comedic actors throw in a great supporting cast incuding Zach Galinfinakis,Jermaine Clement and Ron Livingston. Safe to be said I was pretty damn excited for this movie and for the most part it delivers.
Tim Conrad(Paul Rudd) is a mid-level executive at a powerful company. Conrad wants a promotion very badly so he can get married and mantain his nice apartment. After making a great proposal at a meeting he finds out that his boss Lance Fender(Bruce Greenwood) has a dinner each month and whoever brings the biggest idiot to dinner gets a promotion. Tim at first doesn't like the idea and does not plan on attending. Then when driving he hits Barry(Steve Carell) with his car and he has found his solution Barry will be his idiot at the dinner.
Dinner For Schmucks is a very good comedy. Like I said earlier when you get a cast like this it has to be funny. Rudd is good in the lead but he is overshadowed by Carell as Barry. Carell is a bumbling idiot in this movie but he still just as funny as ever. Throw in two scene-stealing supporting roles from Jermaine Clement as Tim's girfriend's zany artist friend and Zack Galinfinakis as Barry's Boss and you have a well-rounded cast that produces many laughs. The only thing I think they could have done better is made it R. It could have been even better if it wasn't PG-13.
Dinner For Schmucks is another solid entry for comedies in 2010. 2010 is shaping to be a banner year for comedy and with "The Other Guys" coming up next week I am hoping it continues the trend. Dinner For Schmucks is well-acted,very funny and just an overall enjoyable film.
4/5 Stars
