Week 3 Fantasy Football Winners and Losers: 2024 Edition

 Quarterback

MVP: Josh Allen (Bills)

It took what essentially amounted to a half of football for Allen to clinch this honor. He played a huge role in the Bills total annihilation of the rudderless Jaguars last night, throwing for 263 YDS and 4 TD's while adding another 44 YDS on the ground. Allen should face a considerably stiffer test against the Ravens in Week 4.

Honorable Mentions: Dak Prescott (Cowboys), Jayden Daniels (Commanders), Lamar Jackson (Ravens)

LVP: Anthony Richardson (Colts)

While the Colts beat the Bears pretty easily in Week 3, Richardson tried his best to tip the scales in the other direction. The sophomore QB logged 191 scoreless YDS (167 passing, 24 rushing) and threw a pair of brutal INT's as he once again struggled with accuracy and getting into a rhythm as a passer. A positive afternoon for the trick-or-treat Richardson in Week 4 versus the Steelers feels like a long shot.

Dishonorable Mentions: Baker Mayfield (Buccaneers), C.J. Stroud (Texans), Jalen Hurts (Eagles

Running Back

MVP: Saquon Barkley (Eagles)

Barkley's monster line (17 CAR/147 YDS/2 TD's/4 REC/9 YDS/1 2-PT CNV) is a bit deceiving as he was held in check by the Saints for most of the day, but man oh man were those few long runs impactful as he ultimately won the Eagles a game that they somehow almost lost despite thoroughly outshining the Saints all game long. A Buccaneers defense coming off a complete meltdown versus the Broncos awaits Barkley next.

Honorable Mentions: Kyren Williams (Rams), Jonathan Taylor (Colts), Derrick Henry (Ravens)

LVP: Rhamondre Stevenson (Patriots)

The Jets getting out to an early double-digit lead and stacking the shit out of the box made this a real quiet night for Stevenson as he earned just 6 carries which he turned into 23 YDS. A lost fumble in the 2nd quarter added an extra layer of pain to this awful performance. He should be much more active this week against a surprisingly soft 49ers rush D.

Dishonorable Mentions: James Conner (Cardinals), Tony Pollard (Titans), Josh Jacobs (Packers)

Wide Receiver

MVP: Ja'Marr Chase (Bengals)

Look who decided to show up this week! The disgruntled Bengals star took advantage of the Commanders bad secondary by exploding for 118 YDS and 2 TD's on 6 receptions. This wasn't enough to earn the Bengals their 1st win of the season, but it's an encouraging sign for fantasy owners that 2024 may not be a lost year for Chase after all.

Honorable Mentions: Malik Nabers (Giants), Amari Cooper (Browns), Rashee Rice (Chiefs)

LVP: Rasheed Shaheed (Saints)

The biggest beneficiary of the Saints deep shot-driven passing attack over the first 2 games was unsurprisingly the biggest victim of its first failure of the 2024 campaign. Shaheed failed to catch of any his 5 targets as the Eagles turned up the heat on a Saints offensive line that suffered multiple injuries during the game and Derek Carr was forced to revert back to his checkdown-happy ways on account of the heavy pressure he faced on most dropbacks. With center/OL anchor Erik McCoy going on IR with a groin injury, Shaheed's run of being a weekly starter in fantasy may be over for the time being.

Dishonorable Mentions: Mike Evans (Buccaneers), Calvin Ridley (Titans), Jameson Williams (Lions)

Tight End

MVP: Dallas Goedert (Eagles)

A string of injuries in the receiving corps made Goedert the overwhelming star of the Eagles passing attack on Sunday versus the Saints. In fact, Goedert registered a career high in both receptions (10) and YDS (170) on an afternoon where the Saints just could not prevent him from getting wide open and ripping off long gains after the catch. Hopefully this is just the first sign of great things to come for the talented but oft injured and inconsistent Goedert.

Honorable Mentions: Cole Kmet (Bears), Jake Ferguson (Cowboys), Dalton Kincaid (Bills)

LVP: Mark Andrews (Ravens)

In fairness to Andrews, Lamar Jackson only attempted 15 passes as Todd Monken elected to exploit the Cowboys horrendous run defense for most of the game. However, that doesn't erase the damage of Andrews putting up a goose egg in Week 3. Andrews has been really quiet in 2 of the first 3 games this year and we're only a couple more duds away from fantasy players pounding the panic button on the longtime star tight end.

Dishonorable Mentions: Dalton Schultz (Texans), Isaiah Likely (Ravens), Hunter Henry (Patriots)

Defense/Special Teams

MVP: Jets

Jeff Ulbrich had a simple strategy against the Patriots: Blitz the shit out of them and see if their league-worst offensive line can hold up. It paid off beautifully as they picked up 7 sacks and a fumble recovery in an easy 24-3 win. The Jets will look to keep cooking in a plus matchup against the Broncos in Week 4.

Honorable Mentions: Bills, Vikings, Seahawks

LVP: Cowboys

Was Week 1 an apparition? Because ever since then, the Cowboys D has been AWFUL. They got steamrolled by the Ravens in Week 3, allowing 28 points while picking up zero sacks or takeaways. If they can't get it done against the Giants on Thursday night, they'll be an immediate drop candidate.

Dishonorable Mentions: Raiders, 49ers, Buccaneers
