After a slow start to the year, March opens the doors for some bigger and more exciting films to enter the cinematic marketplace. Here are my thoughts on all of March's wide releases.
Films I want to See:
6.Bad Words (3/14 limited, 3/28 wide): Jason Bateman's directorial debut looks to be an amusing dark comedy romp similar to films like Bad Santa and Horrible Bosses (which Bateman also starred in). Hopefully Bateman's on screen talent can translate to behind the camera.
5.Muppets Most Wanted (3/21): The last Muppets film in 2011 was pretty amusing and this looks to be similarly enjoyable with the writers of the previous installment returning and a cast featuring premier comedic talents such as Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais and Ty Burell.
4.Need for Speed (3/14): Yes it looks similar to the Fast and Furious films, but that doesn't mean it looks bad in the slightest. It should be interesting to see how Aaron Paul handles the role of an action hero and director Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) does at the helm of a big budget film.
3.Sabotage (3/28): Arnold Schwarzenegger has been on point since his acting comeback in 2012 and Sabotage looks to be another fun, grimy action film from the B-movie icon. Only downside is the involvement of screenwriter Skip Woods- who is fresh off tainting the legacy of the Die Hard franchise with last year's colossal letdown A Good Day to Die Hard-with the project.
2.Noah (3/28): The story of Noah's ark being brought to the big screen would typically not interest me at all. But when you put the iconic Biblical story in the hands of a director like Darren Aronofsky, my interest is piqued. Nothing I've seen on the film so far looks particularly fantastic though I remain hopeful that Aronofsky can do something special with this subject matter.
1.300: Rise of an Empire (3/7): I feel like it's 2007 again when I see the promotional material for 300: Rise of an Empire. The first 300 remains one of my favorite films of all-time, and with Zach Snyder's stamp still all over this film despite the fact that he's not directing it, my hopes are very high for the return of the Spartan army.
Films I'm unsure on:
Divergent (3/21): The concept is certainly intriguing and there is a lot of potential in this series with Shailene Woodley in the lead role, I'm just not completely sold on the quality of this film from the marketing and middling screenwriting team behind it.
Films I have zero interest in:
Mr. Peabody & Sherman (3/7): Quite simply this just doesn't look funny or charming to me.
Tyler Perry's Single Moms Club (3/14): I'd like to thank Tyler Perry for confirming that Nia Long and Amy Smart are still working actors. Mr. Perry, if you can track down Regina King and Jenna Elfman for your next project; I'd greatly appreciate it.

March in Film
March ushers in the two-month transitional between the dead of winter and the start of summer blockbuster season in May with a combination of huge tentpole and mid-budget releases. Here are my thoughts on the large slate of March films.
Films I want to see:
6.Dead Man Down (3/8):This is a pretty cool looking noir-thriller with a solid cast and a talented director. Colin Farrell is on a hot streak right now and this film has the all the makings to keep that quality streak going.
5.Olympus Has Fallen (3/22):It's been a while since we've had a White House-takeover movie and this is the first of two to be released this year. Olympus Has Fallen is more intriguing to me than June's White House Down due to the presence of director Antoine Fuqua. Fuqua's last film, Brooklyn's Finest, was a bit of a letdown, but I expect him to recover with this film. Fuqua is one of the best directors at handling action in Hollywood and the trailer looks like a good time. It also doesn't hurt that the always great Morgan Freeman and Aaron Eckhart are cast in major roles.
4.The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (3/15): The trailer is solid albeit not great, but this film still has the potential to be completely hilarious given the amount of comedic talent involved. I mean Steve Carrell, Jim Carrey, Steve Buscemi and Alan Arkin in the same movie? Sign me up!
3.Spring Breakers (3/22):This looks like a completely batshit crazy movie and I'm sure it is with Harmony Korine at the helm. I'm curious to see how Selena Gomez fares in a way off-type role and James Franco's character looks highly entertaining. I'm expecting pure chaos, hopefully it doesn't disappoint
2.G.I Joe: Retaliation (3/29): I was one of the handful of people who liked the first installment, so naturally I'm excited for the sequel. This one looks way better than the original and the additions of action superstars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Bruce Wills is just plain awesome. The clip I saw in IMAX 3D last month was badass and stunning visually so hopefully that will lead to a great, mindless, pre-summer blockbuster action film.
1.The Place Beyond the Pines (3/29):This film is one of the more intriguing of the year. The cast is loaded with talent including Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper in the lead roles (who are two of the best working actors in Hollywood in my opinion) as well as up-and comer Dane DeHann and grizzled veterans Ray Liotta and Bruce Greenwood in the supporting cast. The early reception on the film festival circuit has been excellent and the premise seems very interesting. This has all the makings of a top-notch crime drama filled with incredible performances.
Films I'm not sure about:
Jack the Giant Slayer (3/1):The early reception has been surprisingly good and that paired with a strong cast and director Bryan Singer definitely makes for some potential. At the same time though, this film looks pretty dumb and I still don't see how they can successfully make Jack and the Beanstalk into a feature-length film. Might check it out on DVD, but I'm leaning towards no at the moment.
21 and Over (3/1):I am a big fan of R-rated raunchy comedies, but this film doesn't really look that funny. This love of R-rated comedies and lack of said comedies so far this year will probably drive me to see this at some point, but I'm not expecting much.
Oz: The Great and Powerful (3/8):Oz: The Great and Powerful is a film I'm really hesitant to see, but at the same time I kind have to check it out. I don't want to see it because it looks like a carbon-copy of Tim Burton's acid-trip version of Alice in Wonderland. I do want to see it because of the great cast and more importantly, to see what visionary director Sam Rami did with the story of Oz. This film has loaded me with simultaneous curiosity and skepticism. Either way, It shall be interesting to see how it plays out.
Admission (3/22): I am a big fan of Paul Rudd and Tina Fey, but this film looks kind of middling and too indie for either of them.
The Host (3/29): The premise is intriguing, but considering it's based on a book by Twilight author Stephanie Meyer, I definitely have my reservations about seeing it.
Film I have zero interest in:
The Last Exorcism Part II (3/1): I've heard the original is absolutely abysmal and the exorcism genre has been stale for a LONG time.
The Call (3/15): Halle Berry has really fallen on hard times. I can't remember the last time she was in anything that wasn't X-Men related that was even remotely good and this cheap-looking thriller seems to continue the (mostly) awful streak she has been on since she won an Oscar for her performance in Monster's Ball way back in 2001.
The Croods (3/22): Pretty weak looking animated film with surprisingly poor animation. Not even seeing Nicolas Cage voice a caveman will get me to see this one.
Temptations of a Marriage Counselor (3/29): Tyler Perry strikes again! Pass.....
Films I want to see:

March In Film
March is when the movie studios tend to step up the quality and scale of their films. This March is no exception. Here are my thoughts on the whole lot of March films.
Film I Want To See:
3.Project X (3/2): Of course being a big fan of vulgar high-school comedies, I am very excited to see this. This film has a lot of potential and the early audience reception has been excellent. Todd Phillips on board as a producer only adds to my excitement level.
2.Wrath of the Titans (3/30): I was one of the very few that liked the remake of Clash of the Titans. The sequel looks much better with some badass looking and most of the original cast back, I am expecting good things. Only potential issue is the (mostly) bad director Jonathan Libesman (Darkness Falls, Battle:LA) on board as director.
1.21 Jump Street (3/16)-I am a huge Jonah Hill fan and this is easily his best-looking comedy in quite some time. The cast is chock full of hilarious people (Ice Cube, Ellie Kemper, Rob Riggle, Nick Offerman) and again, the early reception has been overwhelmingly positive. I think we could possibly looking at an early contender for the funniest movie of 2012.
Film I Am Not Sure About
The Lorax(3/2)-I never read The Lorax as a kid, so I have no form of nostalgia towards it. That being said, this doesn't really look too bad. The concept doesn't really appeal to me though and it is from the makers of Despicable Me (which I didn't enjoy unlike most people), so I am definitley iffy on this one.
John Carter (3/9)-John Carter is one baffling movie. The trailers have been out for months, but no one really knows what it's about. A couple of the recent commercials have made it be known (kind of) what it's about, but that still hasn't swayed me to the see this film. All I can gather from the trailer is that is this is a really subpar looking high-budget sci-fi flick. Will definitely be waiting for DVD on this one.
Silent House (3/9)-The solid early word is encouraging, but I can see this turning out really bad.
Film I Have No Interest In Seeing
A Thousand Words(3/9)-God damn it Eddie Murphy. You were doing so well coming off Tower Heist then you have to come out with this sure to be god awful comedy. It has been on the shelf for a long time as well, which only hints even more at how bad this film is going to be.
The Hunger Games(3/23)-I am so sick of hearing about this film. Everyone is making this out to be a masterpiece when it looks like nothing more than the Twilight version of Battle Royale. I am sure I will be tricked into seeing it by the end of the year, but I am almost 100% sure that I will hate every minute of it.
Mirror Mirror (3/30)-This might take the crown for worst-looking movie of 2012 so far. A really poor and horribly unfunny looking light version of Snow White? Smell like an early Razzie contender to me.

March In Film
March is the month where the bigger and better films start to come out. Studios get out of the typical post-Oscar dead period of the first two months of the new year and begin to release some higher-proflie movies. This March, has some releases I am quite excited for and quite a few that I have no intrest in.
Films I Want To See
3.Battle: Los Angeles(March 11)-This is teetering on the line of me wanting to see it and being unsure about it. Despite my concerns about the director, Jonathan Libesman(he previously directed Darkness Fall and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning), I want to see this. The second trailer is pretty damn cool and it convinced me this could be good. This could be a pretty nuts alien movie.
2.Paul(March 18)-I am a huge fan of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, it delights me to see them in another. The trailer is very funny and the concept is hilarious. The all-star cast is amazing and there is a huge amount funny and talented people in this.
1.Sucker Punch(March 25)-This is actually my most anticipated before the summer. I am going to be honest, I am a Zack Snyder fanboy. The trailer is amazing, the concept is very interesting and the action looks fantastic. Snyder hasn't disappointed me in the past and this looks to be another hit.
Films I Am Unsure About
The Adjustment Bureau(March 4)-The trailer is alright, but the long delay is disheartening.
Limitless(March 18)-I will say the plotline could be cool, it hasn't really been done before. I have no issue with the cast. My only reasons for concern is the script might turn out to be really shitty. We'll have to wait and see how it turns out.
The Lincoln Lawyer(March 18)-This is another movie that could seriously could either way. The could either be a great legal drama or Matthew McCounaghey could drag it down.
Films I Have No Interest In Seeing(although I will see anyways due to my goal for 2011 films)
Rango(March 4)-Personally, I think looks like shit. It seems like a kids movie that's not for kids and I have feeling this will be a really weird and disjointed film.
Beastly(March 4)-Long delayed Twilight rip-off? No thanks.
Take Me Home Tonight(March 4)-Plain and simple, doesn't look funny.
Mars Needs Moms(March 11)-One look the cringe-inducing title and I instantly knew I would have zero interest in it. The trailer is also pretty weak.
Red Riding Hood(March 11)-I can't even believe this is real. It looks an update of Little Red Riding Hood for Twilight Fans(the director of the first Twilight film, Catherine Hardwicke, explains that).
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 2: Roderick Rules-I haven't seen the trailer for this, but the original looks really stupid.
