Movie Review: The Ides of March (Film Number 46 In My Goal For 2011 Films)

Just in time for the Republican primaries, we have the release of The Ides of March on DVD. The timing couldn't possibly more fitting considering the shit show that is going on with all the Republican candidates right now. The Ides of March which is centered around corruption and greed during a Presidential campaign doesn't really offer up any up shocking truths or revelations, but the content is effective in driving it's message home. These kinds of things happen in politics all the time and the public is none the wiser. That alone makes this an important film to watch, but the real strength of The Ides of March is the acting. Ryan Gosling is enough to drive the film by himself in the lead role, but the supporting players (George Clooney, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Evan Rachel Wood, Paul Giamatti) are also excellent. Great acting can be enough to make a film and The Ides of March has a plethora of wonderful performances. The actors carry this movie on their back and it's a pleasure to watch these spectacular actors work their magic throughout.

3.5/5 Stars
